Our specialist one-day smoke pencil training focuses on Health & Safety Executive general training requirements as follows:
- Competence: All workers must be adequately trained and competent to carry out their job safely, including the safe use of equipment that generates smoke or other hazards
- Information and instruction: Employers must provide clear instructions and information, as well as adequate training and supervision
- Training needs: Employers must identify the specific training needs of their workforce, including new recruits and people changing jobs or taking on extra responsibilities

The programme sees us attend site to provide training in the use of the smoke pencils for the identification of room fabric leak paths in compliance with the COSHH Regulations and HSE Guidelines.
The one-day training includes a practical session and is carried out within your CL3 laboratories to allow real-life testing to be demonstrated/practised. We would require access to a CL3 lab to carry out initial leak testing prior to the training course so we are aware of any leak paths within the room fabric. If present, these would then be used within the session to allow candidates to see what a leak looks like in the fabric. Should this not be possible, we would have to simulate a pinhole size leak, such as through the fumigation test port.
The training can include groups of up to four people. It may be valuable to include maintenance/estates staff who may be expected to carry out work in the room, so that they are aware of the level of testing carried out.
If needed, we can provide two sessions, allowing up to 8 people to be trained, and on completion we will provide training certificates for each attendee. Should you require one, we can provide a smoke pencil kit for the laboratory.
